First English After School Program

By: Pastor Lloyd Hanson
Posted: Saturday, October 18, 2003

There is Good News out of First English!

An After School Tutorial Director has been engaged. She is Jeanette Hampton, a retired elementary school teacher/administrator. Her work began October 1. The principal of a near by elementary school has agreed to encourage up to 30 of his students, grades 1-5, to enroll. November 19 is our targeted start up date. A bus from his school drops students in front of First English. Sacramento City School District has granted a permit for our program.

We have 2 needs. One is for volunteers for the 1 day a week program, 2:30 - 4:30 PM. The other is funding. We can sustain this program through 2003 with our limited resources. Our budget is $2000./ month. We are requesting assistance from area congregations and from corporations and businesses. Contributions from individuals are welcome.

First English has been and is a participant in its community. Last summer it continued the Weekly Senior Center when the City School district took a summer vacation because of shortage of funds. The congregation also sponsored a Summer Day Camp for one week utilizing Mount Cross Bible Camp Staff.
